troubleshooting Question

My OS is win Home Edition 64 bit and I am using a HP Laptop. Whenever I play a DVD, I make a note of the title and chapter that I saw. When I want to continue playing the DVD again continuing from where I left off, I usually select the Title and the Chapter, and then hit the play button. But the DVD seems to be playing from the beginning. Why is this so, and what am I doing wrong to play from where I left off.
