DVD says 600gb + but only has 3.4 gb of data

Hi,

I asked this question ealrlier and thought we had it fixed based on an offered solution - I was mistaken.

someone backed up itunes to several single layer dvd's (no compression) a toal of about 40gb. When we put the discs in the machine it shows the correct amout on the disc say....3.4gb with some room, when we go to transfer the data though it says 640gb and we get an error that we don't have enough hd space.

What we've tried:

- copying the files to a hd
- copy the files to an external drive
- closing the session
- using a program to make a disk copy
- Importing a file into itunes
- importing a folder into itunes: this sort of worked in that the songs were processed but only available if the dvd was in the drive

Our question - how can we reslove this and get the data from the discs back onto the machine.

Thanks.

Hi sio2y
This has to be the key~>- closing the session<~ if you have burnt it as BillDL suggested you should not have closed the session, to my understanding that closes the disc, and then cannot be read the way it is meant to,
cannot be extracted since it is disc one and should be continued on to disc two etc
Since this sort of works  may be your only option.>
- importing a folder into itunes: this sort of worked in that the songs were processed but only available if the dvd was in the drive<< can you resave them?

@thydzik - we tried going from dvd to external not from original to external....the originals were copied by someone else, we don't know how they did it exactly.

@BillDL - We really dont know how they did it or if any tool was used but your suggestion makes alot of sense. we'll look for folder one and see how it works out.

@Merete - yes, at hte moment that's where we stand.

Thanks all....we'll post back with the results.
