Hello Gurus
I am using Gmail (GoogleApps) for my work. and I rely a lot on emails.
I have a huge mailbox (around 8GB) that I would like to have as offline on my Laptop in case I need to search for something when I am not online.
I have tried GoogleApps for Outlook...but frankly Outlook is too heavy and searching in such big pst becomes a pain...
I tried thunderbird there also I did not like... too slow...
Is there a real good archiving utility for emails ? (Offline.)
I need thje utility to download the emails (it would take ages at first..but then it becomes ok).
and I would need to be able to search by all possible fields...
even in the message if possible..
I am trying now mailstore server... but it is not cheap !!!
anybody used it ? any alternative ?

Chrome will allow only for last 30 days of emails !!
if you want a mail archiver, you can use zimbra opensource.it is free, you can setup it over an ubuntu server.
then via thezimbra desktop client you can use gmail and the zimbra mailbox and move the mail...it is not so fast to build but it is all free !!

If you are using Outlook 2007 or onwards, Indexing capabilities are really good. I personally have at least 8-10 PST's ranging in size from 1-6 GB on my system, after attaching the PST's i let it be to complete the indexing, once done, i see search results from all PST's and that too quick.

M3rc74 the problem with mailstore (free) is that it does not give u access to all your folders !!!

mailstore creates the indentical replica of your outlook personal folder.
or as virtualxistance suggested, download all your mails to Outlook and then copy pst file somewhere else on laptop and add as data in outlook profile

no, that was two solutions:
one is mail store
one is extra pst
try mailstore, you will not regret ( everyday mailstore can copy mails from your outlook to himself ) mailstore looks the same as your outlook ( extra folders, subfolders... )

M3rc74 my problem with mailstore is in 2 folds.
1-the free version does not sync all folders (so useless !)
2-I can not send/receive from it..
