Windows Server 2012
Dear All

I have a fully working windows 2008 R2 environment. I thought I'd bite the bullet and dive into Windows 2012.

I have two 2012 servers acting as DCs , both work
I have five 2008 servers . ( two Dcs here two ) , all working

I have one 2012 server up and running which reports lots of green tiles on the misnamed 'Metro' interface.
The other screams red tiles  at me and Im sure that I have a clue in this error message.

Server01 x.x.x.x  Online
SERVER02 x.x.x.x Online - Cannot get event data

These are licensed servers , not betas - both fully patched

BPA isnt reporting anything particulary wrong

Ive read most of the google pages and technet articels and try as I might , I  can not get this server to state its managebility as just Online.

Is anyone else strugglng with this 'cannot get event data issue'? or is it just me and something obvious Im missing?

What this SERVER02 OS is? If 2008R2 probably Windows Remote Management is not enabled :) Then log on to that server, open elevated command-line and run
winrm qc

and refresh view in a Server Manager on 2012

Additionally, please check if Windows firewall does not blocks it in case that winrm has been ran

Regards,
Krzysztof

Thank you Krzyztof

 server02 is windows 2012 Standard

Win RM Quick Config  reports that win RM service is running

Your blog could have been relevant  but sadly Im one step ahead as this is a 2012 server and I have already taken those actions and they were succesful. I just cant  get the event data for this machine ( the other is fine). Both servers are activated and licensed.

OK, so check the firewall, if it does not block communication, reboot the server and check once again.

Does it happen when you try to view that information from another Windows Server 2012 Server Manager ? Can you verify that, please ?

Thank you

Firewall is off while Im diagnosong spo that shouldbt be an issue. Servers are on the same physical switch

I can see  the same results from both servers.
Server01 reports that server02 cannot get event data . It reports that server01 is online
Server 02 reports that it cannot get event data. it reports that server01 is online

I can manage the server from each other, i just cant get past this error status!

It was quite awhile ago now

But if memory serves me I had added AD FS and AD LS services to one of my servers and it was at the time a mix of roles that didn't work together

This broke the config and didn't allow those red tiles to turn green

Im a bit more experienced with 2012 now .. if you want to shoot a scenario at me , I am happy to try and help!

In case anyone else stumbles on this AD LS was the culprit for me.
