Which one of these external hard drives is recommended?

Hello,

I've been using Win 7 64 and have a few Western Digital external hard drives that have been good apart from one (that's dead with the clicking issue).

I'd really appreciate if someone could help me choose between these 2:

http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Essential-Desktop-External/dp/B0042Z55RM

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-External-STBV3000100/dp/B00834SJU8

I've never had a Seagate but as far as I've read, their drives aren't reliable as Western Digital but in the above particular models, Seagate has gotten much more favorable reviews than WD which has put me in a fix.

Any comments would greatly help me. Thanks

Thanks Mike. That helps.

If possible, could you please let me know if you had a chance to use either products?
I have a Western Digital MyBook 1TB on my desktop that I have used for about two years without incident.  Prior to that I have had Seagate drives, although not that specific model.

Oh ok.. Thanks again, Mike.

I've used WD's Essential, Premium drives in all sizes between 500 GB - 2.5 TB but never had a Seagate.

If you were me, would you still you go for the cheapest one even though you have about 7 WD drives that work well?

Thanks Jack. There are so many horror stories about Seagate that wouldn't make me feel good about having a reliable backup. :(

Thanks for the suggestion, ded9. It would be great to have the data everywhere. I'll think about it.

Thanks again, Mike. You're right, I guess I'll stick with what I know.

Great tip, nobus. I read about WD Red Drive and am planning to get one in the future with a powered enclosure. Yeah, I use a powered USB Hub.

I wouldn't mind if the drive+enclosure looks like a tank as long as the data is reliable.

ps: Sadly, I ordered that Seagate (during the early stages of this question) and chose the slowest shipping option since Amazon prices change quickly. But it has shipped out already. Will reject it.
