KVM Switch DVI video

Looking to confirm whether a KVM configuration will work the way I expect.

I have two PCs both with DVI output and dual monitor capability.  Single female port on the back of each of the PCs.  With a splitter, I'm able to take the output of either of the PCs and route it to the two monitors, but obviously not at the same time.  What I need to know, before purchasing a KMV Switch is whether I can take the single output of each of the PCs into separate inputs on the KVM switch, then attach the splitter to the output of the KVM so that when I switch between the two inputs, the result will be two monitors powered by the PC selected in the switch.User generated image
Also, if I configure my wireless keyboard/mouse USB receiver to the output of the KVM box, will a single USB cable to each PC handle both the mouse and keyboard inputs, or do I need two USB cables (one for the mouse, another for the keyboard) run between the switch and each of the PCs?

KVM's can be a little finicky, but that should work OK.

Not sure about the wireless keyboard/mouse USB receiver. I never tried that.

Do you use 1 or 2 cables now?
And I think you will have to put it on the INPUT side, for 1 keyboard/mouse to work either system.

Not the answer I wanted, but the best answers, none-the-less.

I think I'll start out with a single KVM, sharing only one of the monitors, and if that works out OK, maybe consider the 2nd KVM.
