DB2 backup

Dear all,

When doing the DB2 backup, what application we need to use and it should backup the configuration also ?

What is the command to do full database backup and what is the full command to do DB2 configuration backup?

Kent,

Thansk, so did you tried to restore it before and can you find a web site saying the db2 backup database command will backup DB2 configuration data?

Just like in MS SQL server, if we backup master, model and msdb database, we backup everything already.

kent,

Can you help to answer https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27922552/IBM-DB2-error.html if you can.

I am frucate by that since last friday and I am expected to finish reseraching the root cause by the end of tomorrow.
Hi Marrow,

The instance configuration and the database configuration are different things.  A full database backup will capture all of the database items, but not the instance (server) items.  To backup the instance configuration, you'll need a separate tool:

  http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2luw/v9r5/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.db2.luw.qb.migration.doc%2Fdoc%2Ft0006355.html

Kent
Kdo,

How about for V 8.1 of DB2, is it the same thing ?

DBA100.
V8 is pretty old and no longer supported by IBM.  (I'll see what I can find.)

Are you using it for learning/test/development or do you have a production database on that server?  If it's for learning, download the new version of DB2 Express from IBM.  It's free.  If that's a production database you definitely want to upgrade to a supported version.

Kent,

This is a production system and we just found out that the backup is not good and we didn't know if the backup will backup the configuration also.

We need to change some configuration and restart, before that move we woud like to backup the configuration first.

We will phrase out the DB2 but not now.
Thanks ken, it is good to learn from you.
