asked on

address rewrite edge

I am trying to do an address rewrite on exchange 2010 edge server but it gets suck in the q. when sending. anything sent to @fax.out change to fax.com

New-AddressRewriteEntry -Name "fax.out" -InternalAddress fax.out -ExternalAddress fax.com

after doing some reading it looks like that might not be possible? any ideas?

@R-R: What is the solution you are proposing?
BTW the second link is for E2007 and not E2010.

@Xvand: You'll need to ensure that the transport agent is in enabled state

Enable-TransportAgent -Identity "Address Rewriting Outbound agent

Once done, work with the email test again.

i did..  the only thing that i think that on M$ website on out bound it says

Envelope To (RCPT TO) outbound Not rewritten  inbound Rewritten

so maybe it will only work with your authorive domains? like my sending from.. not sending too?
Nope, that's incorrect - read what MS has to state

You can rewrite the headers of e-mail messages sent to and from recipients that send messages from specific internal domain names when messages are sent to and from the Internet.

Run the following cmdlet and provide me the output.

Get-TransportAgent | FL

Get-AddressRewriteEntry | FL

yeah we use it for a fax system...

fax.out  rewrites to fax.m5net.com
All the configuration looks good, I'm sure you've run the cmdlet once the config for

Start-EdgeSynchronization

so, emails are sent out as userA@fax.out - correct?

i have been working on this all day. the only thing that happens is this once its in the q i can delete it and it send me back a NDR. it does a rewrite but like this

From: user <user@mydomain.com>
To: "1555555555@fax.out" <1555555555@fax.m5net.com>

so it will not rewrite the rpct to address.. im going to write my own .dll transport rule but thats not how i really wanted to get it to work
Nope, didnt have a chance to work with this rule until now, but RPC TO: wouldn't matter as long as the email is going to fax.m5net.com right?

i think it would matter but im not a 100% sure, i just know it sits in q with the address saying its
1555555555@fax.out not 1555555555@fax.m5net.com
and wont send, everything else is fine.  i reset up everything last night and still had the same issue.

the email is supossed to be going to fax.m5net.com
Can a normal email be sent out to fax.m5net.com?

yes right now we use a vb script to do an address rewrite on our old 2003 servers. we switched everything to 2010 but out going and im trying to switch to edge but this holds me back. I can use a c# script to add a transport agent but I really didn't want to do that.
Let me try this out today in my lab, and get back to you on this.
