CodeIgniter - putting page requests through a single controller

I'm very new to CodeIgniter, and am still getting my head around some of the basic concepts

I've set up a mod_rewrite to avoid the need to put index.php into the URL for each page.

I'm considering putting requests for all pages through a single controller; I think I'd achieve this with a mod_rewrite. Is this likely to cause problems further down the track?

If I do proceed with this structure, can I pass some requests on to other controllers from the central controller? How would I do this?
