Linked SVG file not displayed in IE

Hello

I'm sure it's a pretty trivial question but I can't seem to be able to figure it out...

I have a very basic HTML page that refers to an SVG object

<body>

<object data="http://biblionundgraphia.ch/bg.svg" type="image/svg+xml">

</object>

For some reason this seems to work fine with any browser except for IE (7-8-9).

The SVG itself is pretty "dirty" but should render nonetheless.

Any idea / suggestion most welcome

On IE8 on my Windows XP computer, it wants to load the 'SVG Viewer 3.03' from Adobe Systems when I put the link above in my address bar.  That means that IE8 does not have a built-in capability to display SVG images.  This page http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/hh410107.aspx says that SVG capability was introduced with IE9.  It has some examples that show it will support.

Hmm thanks was not aware of that - will look into it. That being said I get the very same result using IE9 on Win7 :(

Ok I guess that settles it :)
Thanks for the points.  Wikipedia converts all their SVGs to JPGs, probably for just that reason.
