Tightvnc will not open when on VPN

I had a windows 98 machine running our temperature controls. We could use Tight VNC to it whilst in work and on the internal network and look at the programs, etc and when at home I could go onto the VPN via wireless and get to it.
It has suddenlt changed - I can get to the machine internally but when I try when I am at home I cannot.
Our Firewall has not changed, no virus protection has been added and i am at a loss why I can no longer get to it.

I can ping it when I am on the internal network. When I am on the VPN, i can ping all other pc's but not this one .

Sounds as if the W98 PC has lost the default gateway, and you are using a different IP for VPN than the local subnet.

ASKER

The deafult gateway is the same as always and the ip for vpn is also the same
Did you really check on the W98 machine whether the default gateway is still there?
yes and all is stll okay
