Upgrade .net framework 2.0 to 3.5 SP1

Dear all,

What should be the steps to upgrade the existing .net framework 2.0 to 3.5 with SP1 ?

Do we need to uninstall framework 2.0 first, reboot, then install 3.5 with SP1?

pramod_ubhe,

Then it is easy and just rock and roll.
Note that .NET 3.5 is built on top of .NET 2.0, so you actually need 2.0 on your computer in order to use 3.5.  Technically, 3.5 is built on top of 3.0, which is built on top of 2.0.

If you install .NET 3.5 on a PC without either 2.0 or 3.0, it will install those on it as well.
marsilies,

Good explaination, but one thing, as installing the .net framework always needs to reboot.

If we have .net framework 2.0 installed but now , try to install .net framework 3.5 with SP1, do we need to reboot?

I think only this one suit me:

\\computer\share\dotnetfx35.exe /q /norestart

but under what situation or pre-requisest needs to be done before I do this ? restart means that some file is locked and it needs to take effect after we restart it, right?

So what should it be ?
if we don't restart it, the installation still complete and we can take full advantage of the .net framework 3.5 SP1?
I can't find a definitive answer, but from what I could find I would say that while you can use that command switch to keep it from prompting to restart after installing, you should still probably restart the PC before trying to use any .NET 3.5 specific features.
This means I need to reboot anyway.
already good enought !
