Changing databaseowner and it's impact

Hi,
I have databases created by DBA privs users in the past.
These people have now moved on and I need to delete their SQL logins. Before I do that I will have to change dbowner on database level.
If these users have created objects within Db as well, how do I make sure dropping users/logins won't drop the objects created by them?
I need to assign sa as db_owner. Can I lock down this account? I have other privs accounts with me for day to day DBA work.

USE restore
GO
EXEC sp_changedbowner 'sa'

Thanks
