Fiber Connection issue

I have an HP ProCurve 2900-48G switch that is in another area of my building that I currently have tied to my main network switch via fiber. That works great. I've just recently installed a new ProCurve 2910al-24G switch in a different area that is also connected via 50-micron, 10G, multimode fiber. When I turn the switch on, it does it's self-check resulting in a flashing amber test light and a flashing light above my mini-GBIC. I've remoted into my existing switch to see the status of the new mini-GBIC port and it is enabled and configured to auto, but does not say it is connected. I've tried to ping the new switch and it is not responding. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Are the ports and GBIC's both rated for 10 gbps?  Are the GBIC's rated for MM?  Do you have the part number of the GBIC?

ASKER

The GBIC for the 2900 is J4858C, the GBIC for the 2910al is J9150A.
Both switches are rated at 10gbps. The J4858C is rated at 1gbps, the J9150A is 10gbps, both are MM.
AFAIK you can not make a fiberlink with different speed (no auto speed possible).

After speaking to someone at HP again, they told me that the 2 different GBICs are not compatible with each other, so I needed to replace the J9150A with a J4858C.
