The e-mail address you entered couldn't be found.

I have a customer that is having an issue receiving email on an address in SBS2008.

The address accounting@xyz.org was once an account.  After review the accounts, it was decided to make this one an alias.  The account was deleted and the alias was created under the proper user.  Now, Howeve,r the user is indicating they are not getting mail from this account.  I have verified that internally it works but, when I try to send something from a different domain I get the bounce indicated below:

I know it has something to with the deletion, but I can't quite figure out why it would work internally, but not extrenally not even with OWA.

I would sure appreciate some help.

Rick

Here is what I would do.

Internally open webmail and type the email address manually and hit check name (or CTRL key + K) and check it resolves to which account (you might already know this).

Externally, send an email from gmail / hotmail to this account and check if it gets a bounce back.

If externally for a new email (not cach'd) you get a bounce back, there is something in front of Exchange and before internet that might be storing these users accounts or entries that might not have got updated.

If this is a user group... Go into the properties page for this account (using Exchange Management Console) and uncheck the option "only receive from authenticated users"

Sorry I don't have access to my Exchange Server right now so I am doing this from memory,
After you deleted and re-created hope it has a Mailbox where the emails are getting delivered ?

When you say Outlook (assuming) works internally but not OWA or external ...... OWA looks directly at GAL whereas Outlook could be pulling data from some cache.

Is there any firewall or gateway as well or some ISP filtering used ?

ASKER

It hink this is the solution

"If this is a user group... Go into the properties page for this account (using Exchange Management Console) and uncheck the option "only receive from authenticated users"

Sorry I don't have access to my Exchange Server right now so I am doing this from memory,"

I unchecked it, and applied the settings, and now I am not getting bounce back.  I expect they will respond to my test in the morning.

I will keep you all posted

Rick

Thanks much!!!!!
"only receive from authenticated users" - this basically means only internal users can send to this DL.
