how to disable the touch pad on Lenovo x120 laptop running window 7 home?

I get this x120 Lenovo laptop, it has the "red" pointing device and touch pad.  I want to disable the touch pad.  (window 7).  I went to control panel.  device manager -> mice and other pointing devices -> think pad ultraNav Pointing device.  (I think this is for red pointing devices).  However, I can not find the touch pad devices that I can turn on/off.

anyone can help?

thanks you

Open Control Panel, Mouse, and when it loads, go to the UltraNav tab. In that tab there is check box for the touch pad. Ensure track point is checked and then uncheck touch pad. I do that myself and it works, so it should for you.

I get to the UltraNav tab, click it, it get to the "general/driver/detail.resource
and I do not see anything for check box of "touch pad" or "track point".

this is very rare.  any ideal, or anything I doing wrong?
I think you might be in Device Manager.

Go to Control Panel and click on Mouse (which is a selection in Control Panel). Do not go to Device Manager.

When you get the Mouse window, you should see Buttons, Pointers, Pointer Options, Wheel, Hardware, Activities, maybe Bluetooth (maybe not) AND UltraNav.

Click on the UltraNav Tab and you should see the UltraNav panel as shown below and then uncheck Touch Pad.  I have a Thinkpad T61p and a Lenovo X120e. These two machines and all my client thinkpads work the same way.

Hello thankpads_user,

thank you for your advice. it works perfect.  thank you again.
before I close this treads,  since you are such an experts of thinkpad users.  I need your advice on select new thinkpad laptop to replace my current T42.  although x120 is good, but screen is sort of small.

there is an new thinkpad, called twist. (12.5 inch, ultra book catagory), you can get it at staper store for 799.00.  runs on the window. looks and feels very nice.  but staper lack of experts about the machine, they are not much helpful.

what you think about the twist ultra bood from lenova?
-- can I use it for vb.net development works?
--  do they continue to support dos commnd, -- I think it should
 - is window 8 can support majority function like iPad?   I mean normal office apps, as well as some computer games that my grandkids may want to play with.

thank you in advance.
