Windows Backup for Exchange 2010 - do not truncate logs

I'm using Windows Backup to backup my entire server (Windows SBS 2011 Standard) and I need the ability to disable the truncating of log files.  I have another backup utility that I wish to truncate the log files.  How can I set this option?

If you dont want the Backup to truncate logs its simple take a Offline or File level backup and not "Informtion Store" this will do what you want.

Rancy,

Do I use the Windows backup utility and just select the database files as a file system backup selection?
llarmeu,

How does the article you post void log files being truncated?
Yes sir if you dont want to truncate logs ... be it windows or any software you simply take a backup of the DB and Logs folder as a file backup ..

If still any doubts do let me know :)

Interesting.  I had no idea I could backup the Exchange DB folder and logs folder via a VSS based file system backup and it would actually backup the DB correctly.  I'll test in a few days.

It ended up being that the default selection of my data will work just fine.. Just have to disable the truncating of log files via the VSS section of the advanced menu in the backups.
