Cannot remove backup domain controller from PDC

I have a replication problem with my PDC and BDC. I want to remove the BDC from the domain and then reconnect but when i ran dcpromo it came up asking me for Administrator password for the PDC. When i typed in the correct password it wont accept.
Can anyone help

no such thing as PDC and BDC in server 2008. there are DC's and Member servers, one DC must have FSMO roles (This is what you will be calling a PDC). But thats just nit picking ;)

see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771844(v=ws.10).aspx if you are talking about step 9 then it is a local Administrator, NOT domain Administrator.

You may need to do a /forceremoval and then do some meta data cleanup.

Use the dcdiag, netdiag tools to determine what is going on and why replication is failing.

The DC having replication issues most likely has older credentials for the account you use.

Without knowing which of DCs is the cause or the problem, removing the wrong one could make things worse.
Was there a DC restore from backup performed?
Chek event logs for errors that may shed light on what is going on.
