asked on

are Nintendo DS games compatiable with Nintendo DSi game consoles?

Hi Everyone,

While at Walmart the other night, I purchased an Nintendo DSi game console as a Christmas present for my friend's child.  At this point, I am wondering if Nintendo DS games are compatiable with this console.  I only noticed two different formats for the Nintendo games at Walmart which were Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS.  I am fairly sure this console would not be able to play Nintendo 3DS games because I would need a Nintendo 3DS game console for those.  However, I am unsure about the Nintendo DS games.

Any feedback regarding this question will be greatly appreciated.  I look forward to reading over all shared thoughts and insights to this post.

               Thank you

Hi Everyone,

I am wondering if the older Nintendo DS game consoles which would play earlier Gameboy Advance games are still around?  It seems like they are no longer around; been replaced with the Nintendo DSi consoles.

You can still get them via auction sites and game stores who sell pre-owned consoles.
Agreed - and just to be 100% clear, it is ONLY the original DS (not the DS Lite, DSi etc) that plays the old Advance games....

Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for answering this question while also confirming some of my own personal thoughts regarding the needed hardware for the playback of Nintendo DS games.  All important and necessary points were certainly covered here.
