Password Protect Notes

Hi, i am looking for a way of password protecting small notes that i have in several folders on my macbook.

On my windows system i use a small program / file called LockNote which is basically like a simple .txt file protected with a password.

I don't want to use one big program to manage all passwords as i need these notes saved in each project folder but i need some way of securing them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks but that is too messy, i have several other users accessing these notes too so the notes need to be kept in each project folder... really surprised that this option is not available on the mac.
If the notes are to be read-only, you could use password protected pdf's:

Thanks for your help here but pdf's are fine if they are a final document, however these notes are constantly changing on a daily basis so they would be a nightmare to manage
In that case, I think you are stuck with the third party solutions suggested in the links in my more recent posts.

thanks i have gone through them but they are not a very user friendly way either :(
Another possibility would be to use Get Info to restrict which users have access.
