The command seems to be working just fine, it's just mentioning that /dev/hdc is read-only.

Can you try this: mount | grep hdc

<edit>

Have a look in /etc/fstab as well: grep hdc /etc/fstab

What are you trying to do with /dev/hdc ?

What partitions are on /dev/hdc ? You should be able to see them with:

fdisk -l /dev/hdc
[root@RAC1 /]# fdisk -l /dev/hdc
Note: sector size is 2048 (not 512)

Disk /dev/hdc: 108 MB, 108066816 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 3 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 2048 = 32901120 bytes

Disk /dev/hdc doesn't contain a valid partition table

walkerdba, you forgot to answer this question:

What size / type of device is HDC? Looks very small to me...
my goal is to partition the disk...

I alread have 12 different disk groups it is shown above..

1)  want to veryfy with you

1) my disks like sda , sdb etc are parititioned properly ( it is acts as shared storage)

2) there is one more machine named Rac2  these disks should be shared by this machine as well..
ie, if we should see the sda1,sdb2 etc from Rac2 as well...

this is the output from Rac1

it is attached....

my goal is

1) to make sure I did partition in the right way. it has enough space

2) There is one more server Rac2 I want these disk groups to be displayed there too..
This is the output from RAc1

[root@RAC1 dev]# ls -l sd*

I don't get why you only show sd devices and you want to partition hdc - you have a lot of hd* devices as well?
sd is what I created for rac installation..
