Is it possible to restrict Alert Me option from few users?

I am working on SharePoint Foundation 2010 platform.
Here, i have a query regarding Alert Me feature.
Under Announcement , let say, i have created 3 items over here.
All SharePoint user has got access to it.
Now, the query, when i open each item from announcement, i get an option in the ribbon of Alert Me which i want to restrict from few user for eg. only users having Full Control should get this option else not.
If it is achievable, please guide me on this.

Hi,

yes, this is possible.
There are two options:
1. Replace the existing button
Create a new feature with the appropriate configuration settings for the Alert me button and override the default one:
- Ribbon Control Identifier: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/ee537543.aspx
- MSDN sample: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/ff407290.aspx
- Sample: http://webdevshareetc.blogspot.de/2011/10/sharepoint-2010-enabledisable-ribbon.html

2. Attach custom Javascript to hide
This is not the official suggested way, but should work.
The idea is to use the Sharepoint client object model to identify if the button should be hidden / disabled.
This link
http://makarandrkulkarni.blogspot.de/2010/01/sharepoint-2010-ribbon-customization_23.html
should show the general idea beyond it - but does not fit perfectly.

If you would like to go for solution 2., please update this question and I would try to generate a sample (but could take a little bit of time).

Thanks a lot and HTH
Rainer
