How to obtain useable copies of scripts, backup schedules, etc from SQL Server

Is there a way to get useable copies of SQL scripts, backup schedules, and other SQL settings in general?  I use the word "useable" because we're looking for the equivalent of copying an .ini file or writing down the settings by hand - something you can easily reference later on.  The normal way of backing up this data is to grab a copy of the msdb database but is there another option available to get useable, readable copies of this data?  Thanks.
