Failed Exchange 2007 SP3 Server

Hello Experts

Have a failed Server 2008R2/Exchange 2007 SP3 server - can boot to safe mode only

Have been attempting to bare metal recover with the Barracuda ISO v4.3 with no luck - 2 times I have needed to use the tool and has failed to recover both times - but that is another topic once I get past this SNAFU

I do have a copy of the private and public databases from 11/07/12 and a backup of the user mailboxes from Saturday 11/10/12.

So my question at this point is what is the best possible way to recover the server via a fresh build and fresh install of Exchange? or some other route?

FYI: This is on a VMware ESXi 4.x host

Thanks in advance

Mark

Will this work if the server name remains the same?

IE: old_server=Exchange and new_server=Exchange

It also appears that the server needs to be running to run the ESEUTIL /R

Rancy, my server was fully service packed yet my disc is not the same sp version. Do I need to download a version with sp3 for the recover to work correctly?

Mark
Yes ... do you remember if you had any RU after SP3 as we will have to be at par or above to get our Databases to work again.

- Rancy
Yes, the current RU was done not too long ago as well - so how do you recommend getting the SP and RU updates completed?

I just don't know if using the recoverserver is going to allow these software updates before loading up the databases, or is it a multi-step process to recoverserver several times?

Thanks for you assist

Mark
If you had SP3 ... first get the recovery with SP and then install RU (Latest) and then lets check with normal stuff working and then run EXBPA to check everything is fine and no issues.

Then lets get the database :)
