i tried that .. but this gives me an Extracting files error : An error was encountered. Unspecified error.

I'm also not sure if i need the Server Core version or the NON Server Core version
Sorry. I did not see your System is Server 2008, so use this:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22833
And yes, you need the version for sever core role.

Thanks for your reply

For Server Core role .. should this be in Server Manager --> Roles? Cause i only have 2 roles there : File Services and Web Server (IIS) .. or is this something different?

Or if you are using Windows Server 2008, than you automaticly need the Server Role version
Server core is described here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ee391631%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

You can setup a core server during installation.
So, if you are running a core server you need .net for server core.

It seems to me, that you do NOT run a core server? If not, you should be ok with the normal .NET standalone installer. But your error messages imply that you tried the standalone installer for core server.

Lets clarify: Do you run a core server?
