asked on

iPhone Jabber Client & ASA VPN type: "ipsec" or "anyconnect ssl"

hello community,

short question:
we want to connect iphones with the jabber client to our cisco environment.
we have already an ASA ready for use.

Q1:
Can we use the built-in cisco vpn client with IPSEC (e.g. with certificates) to open the tunnel
or do we have to use the cisco anyconnect client?

If possible we do not want to use an additional software client like anyconnect.
Is it supported with the built-in vpn client over ipsec?

Advantages/Disadvantages?

thanks
regards,
Teggra

According to the iOS knowledge base (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1288), the built-in client is compatible with the ASA.

Hi asavener,
thanks for answering.

Ok, in this case it's supported with the built-in cisco client to the asa 5500 series.
Fine.

Now my question:
Is there an advantage to use the anyconnect instead of the cisco-built-in ipsec vpn client
regarding the Cisco Jabber client on the phone?

Both support vpn on demand, ...

Anything else?

Thanks
regards,
Teggra
The only possible benefit I see is that the Anyconnect client is directly supported by Cisco.  If you have configuration problems, you can just call Cisco and get support for both the ASA and Anyconnect client.
