Shadow copies

Hi,
I have Windows Server 2008 setup to make shadow copies of users' data files so we can retrieve previous versions if needed. Today we needed to do so for a network user's Outlook data file, to retrieve a version from last Thursday. Versions were available from today through last Friday (which unfortunately did not help), and then there was a big gap and the next available version was Sept 27th. All of October was missing along with the first week of this month.

I checked some other files and the available previous versions are as expected: They start at this morning and go back in time several weeks with two copies available each day.

The question is what could have happened to cause this? I know the user logs out and so Outlook is closed outside of business hours when the shadow copies are created. Although it is not a big problem this time, I'm concerned that the cause may be a big problem if it crops up again and is affecting other files. Other than manually checking individual files, I know of no way to verify this is working as intended.

Thanks!

Maybe have a look at the log files under scheduled tasks? Was the machine confirmed to be switched on during this period and not switched off or in a hibernate state perhaps(power settings)?

The server, where the PST file is located (by GPO), is full on 24x7. The workstation as well was always on (before it crashed just prior to this situation arising).

I'll take a look at the logs.
Okay, maybe have a look at the event logs on the workstation also as well as the scheduled tasks especiallly as it crashed prior to it happening as there may be something a little deeper going on possibly.

Well, the motherboard went bad in the workstation. It is being repaired and I will eventually be able to log in there. But again, the user's data files reside on the server. Further looking has revealed all of the other data files I have checked appear to be getting shadow copied as expected. So far just this one PST file has a large gap in previous available versions.
Okay am I right in understanding that the users data is on the Server through GPO from the workstation under theire Users data files(Folder Redirection)? which would mean that the files are copies up through log off process so if the users workstation was having issues possibly with GPO that some files might not have copied up to the server so therefore no shadow copies were taken?
