Renaming 2008 Domain Error Unable to load resource string

Hi, I'm trying to rename my domain.  Following the instructions here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1347.renaming-a-windows-server-2008-active-directory-domain-dsforum2wiki.aspx

I got to the point where I ran rendom /list, I got an error: unable to load resource string 1070(0x42e), but I did generate Domainlist.xml

I edited this file, and tried to run the next step (rendom /showforest) and got more: unable to load resource string errors, but I do get dclist.xml.  If I then try to run rendom /upload, I get:
unable to load resource string 2109(0x83d)
unable to load resource string 2109(0x83d)
unable to load resource string 2004(0x7d4)
unable to load resource string 1070(0x42e)

I tried the suggestions listed here:
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/23934686/Renaming-a-2008-domain-error.html

and get the same errors.

I can get into the admin shares on the DCs  from my control machine, but obviously am not communicating properly with my DCs

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Did you verify your domain's health before you started?

ie. dcdiag /v /e /c /f:dcdiag.txt

I've renamed a domain with no issues where the CS was a VM on VMware. But glad you found a way to solve it.

Yes, I can't say it makes all that much sense to me either, perhaps it was something particular to the vm.  It did, however work like a charm on a physical server.

Thanks!
it solved my problem
