problem installing winXP32bit printer driver on my win2008R2 server

I am running win 2008R2, and it's a print server.
I need to also install 32bit drivers for my machines that are 32bit.
I downloaded the 32bit version of windows XP driver and when I am installing it under hte printer settings, install new driver, I get the following error:

"the folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device.  If hte folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for 64-based systems".

Why won't it accept hte 32bit driver? I ran into this like a month ago and I discovered it was a bad driver, could that be the case here as well?  If it is, then HP stinks , as it's an HP laserjet 4300 printer.

Well, the only driver that HP has is the universal printer driver, they don't have anything other than that.

I just looked and somehow, the 32bit driver is installed now.   That's so strange, as when I tried to install it earlier, it didn't work.

I'll see what happens when I install the next printer.

I know I closed the question, but I am trying to install another HP printer, a laserjet 4100TN, and I get the same error.  I went to additional drivers and pointed the path the .inf, but it says "the specified location does not contain the driver HP laserjet 4100 series PCL6 for the requested processor architecture."

Well, that's the driver I got from HP.com.

Then I also went to the installation directory and I tried to install the .exe file, but that says "installation of hte UPD x86 (32-bit) driver cannot install on an x64 (64-bit) operating system.  Please obtain the x64 release of the driver.

I even told it to use windows XP SP3 compatibility, but it didn't help.

So how do I install the 32bit drivers, I'm puzzled.

here's the solution:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732946.aspx

I have to install the 32bit driver on a 32bit machine and then using print management, install the 32 bit driver on the 64 bit server.
