Leave exchange 2003 in exchange 2010 organization

Hello,

a few months ago I already asked a similar question:

We`re palnning to upgrade exchange2010 to SP2. We still have an old exchange2003 server in our organization but it is turned off. On thsi old server there are some old archive-mailboxes (very huge) which we want to access in case of emergency. Moving those archives can not be done because transaction logs on exchange2010 server get to huge and c: would run out of storage.

You told me that I have to uninstall the last exchange 2003 server before upgradign to exchange 2013. Will this be possible right before upgrading? I think we are not planning to upgrade to exchange 2013.

Do I have to have the old exchange2003 online when updating exchange2010 to SP2.

We would like to hold this old server as long as possible offline. Can we uninstall it later at any time before upgrading to a newer exchange version?

Thanks for your answers.

That`s a really good hint.
Does it mean following?

- I create a new datase
- I enable circullar logging for that database
- I start the move request for the archive mailbox

My transaction-log-partition won`t run out of storage during the move request because of circullar logging?

Can I disable circuallr logging after the move-request?

I want to hold ths server offline because I don`t have the time to do the archive-migration and would like to do this later.

Thanks a lot!
