Hub and CAS Servers on Exchange 2007

We have two CAS/HUB servers in two different locations and they are in different subnet and group under different subnet in AD. In Exchange servers, both CAS/HUB servers could be seen.

However, one of the CAS/HUB server is crashed today and it seems that the Server Mailbox server couldn't use the CAS/HUB server in other site. Internal communication between client doesn't work.

I was told that I need to group the IP network in the same Subnet under AD (dssite.msc). Is that true ? Is there any reason why the CAS/HUB in other site doesn't work ?

Thanks

were the 2 sites linked with one another in anyway i.e: same domain etc or were they standalone servers?
Try restarting the Mail submission and Transport service.

They are linked with physical network. Two sites are belongs to one domain. DC are installed in each site.

Will the problem affect by subnet under AD (dssite.msc) ?

Is it a need to start mail submission and Transport service on mailbox server in order for the CAS/Hub server to take up the role for the crashed one ? Why ?

Great thank.
Each mailbox needs a local (same AD site) hub and cas server, a mailbox server doesn't talk with a cas/hub in a different AD site

Does it mean putting the IP subnet (where the Hub & CAS server crashed) into the remote subnet under dssite.msc will fix the problem ?

How about the DC if it is crashed but both mail & hub/cas server fails ? Should I also need to put it under same subnet under dssite.msc such that user could use the DC in remote site to login the domain and access email ?

Thanks.
I mean that every AD sites should have CAS/HUB and Mailbox

putting the IP subnet of both location under the same site in AD sites and services will solve THIS problem but will give you other problems. in that case any email you sent might be routed through any of both servers and this is not exactly what you want to.
Yeah agree on the subnet part and maybe you can use it simply till you can recover that other CAS\HUB.

last two quesitons, if CAS/HUB has been crashed and I then group the subnet in AD, it shouldn't cause the problem of "mails might be routed through both servers". as there is only one CAS/HUB only.

How about the problem is on the DC rather than either mailbox & CAS/Hub, should I need to group the subnet in AD before I use the DC in another site ?

Great again.
