Howto setup "Windows Desktop Search" for Outlook 2010 searching on Exchange 2007

Since Searching in Outlook 2010 does not work on an Exchange 2007 uncached folder I learned, that I have to cache the postbox and use the "windows Desktop Search".

I was just wondering: Can't outlook use the exchange index? There is a central index for ALL mail-, task-, calendar- and contact-objects on the exchange-Server. And in order to search anything every user has to build it's on index on every client-computer? Is that really the case?

And if so: How must the windows Desktop Search be setup on a Client that is used by multiple users? I just tried it and Outlook tells me, that the postbox-folder of a previously logged in user is indexed. Hence I still can't search my email properly.
How is Windows Desktop Search setup on a Terminal Server?
