Windows SBS 2008 and slow VPN after rebuild

Hello everyone,

I had to rebuild a Windows SBS 2008 Std. server for a client from scratch. Since the rebuild, the remote users are complaining that some tasks are taking a lot longer than before. I don't see a big speed difference with tests when it's on or off.

One thing they say is slower is they use a web application which has a control to retrieve messages from Outlook, display them on the web page, and allow the user to attach the email message to a case. They say it used to take 5 seconds or so to bring up the emails, but now is taking 1 minute+.

Another example they gave was that PDFs take longer to load from the network share.

I tried to compare a remote users speed connected to the VPN to my own computer to the VPN, but my connection here is different ISP so it's not a good comparison. I've tried to uncheck the box for 'Use default gateway on remote network', but didn't seem to have any affect.

I'm stumped in even trying to figure out where the problem lies. Any ideas?

'uncheck the box for 'Use default gateway on remote network' will make a difference when browsing the web.

I would double check the Internet speeds at the clients end.  www.speedtest.net is ok for an estimated download and upload.

How is the VPN formed? Through the SBS or through a router?

The VPN is set up through SBS. On the client side, the speed seems fine from speakeasy (I tested that already).
You said that it takes a long time for PDF's to open.  This all depends on the size of the PDF.  The problem with getting client opinions on VPN's is that they often compare it to the speed if connecting locally. PDF's will take longer to open and the larger it is, the longer it will take (Some users won't appreciate that).

How many people connect via VPN at the same time?
