Upgrade DC from 2003 R2 to 2008 R2 with Exchange 2007 32Bit

Hi Experts,

I have a Domain Controller running Windows Server 2003 R2.
I have an Exchange Server 2007 32Bit running on Windows Server 2003 R2 OS.
The system works fine, but i need to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 DC and decommission the old one.

I have upgraded already to Win server 2008 r2 DC and decomissioned the old one. Mail Works fine too. but now, I am trying to upgrade the exchange to SP2, but the setup crashes immediately saying that this will not work with the current AD or something.

I suspect that the schema is not getting updated since the dc now is 64bit. Is that the case?
What do i need to do and what i have done wrong?

I updated the exchange 2007 to the latest version in SP1 32bit.

Please advise on the design.

I don't think we can help you since Exchange 2007 x86 (32 bit) was never licensed for production use.  The only version that was licensed for production use was the 64 bit edition.  I think your answer (since we cannot help you violate licensing) is to upgrade to Exchange 2010 since 2007 is no longer sold.
