Windows Server 2008 R2 - IPV6

I want to disable IPv6 on all our servers, we do not run Exchange at all, we use Google apps.

I get 20 different answers, about not turning it off,   I am not keen when I ping I get the IPv6 format.

Can someone explain what problems I will come up against if I disable IPv6 on all my servers.

Thx

Agree with Damjanholsedl ,

There is an article from Ace Fekay on disabling IPv6 on client systems/servers, which will give an better understanding of this,

Also , Please see below discussion on Technet.

I am conducting a migration from Novell to Windows.   We are migrating from Novell Groupwise to Exchange Server 2010.  On all of the servers we have turned off IPv6 and everything works fine.   IPv6 does have a lot of advantages but if the network is purely IPv4 then it helps to turn off IPv6.

The easiset way to disable IPv6 is uncheck it on the NIC card.  Then you will have to go into the Advanced properties.   You do this by hitting the Alt key.   You need to uncheck the IPv6 for all of the Adapters and Bindings (Bindings for Local Area Connection).   Uncheck IPv6, Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver, Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder.

To turn off IPv6 with the registry do the following:

1. Run regedit
2. If UAC pops up then continue
3. Go to this Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP6\Parameters\
4. Double-Click DisabledComponents (If not available then create a DWord with name)
5. Type 0xffffffff
    A. Will disable all IPv6 components except loopback
    B. Makes IPv4 the perferred over IPv6

To confirm that it has been changed then run:

reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP6\Parameters /v DisabledComponents
