Outlook address book lost

I have a customer that was told by Verizon to run some utility that wiped his address book / contacts.

We have an Acronis backup, so what is the procedure to restore the address book?

should be able to connect back to exchange and retrieve the current set of contacts from Outlook. Is this not the case.

If the phone wiped contacts from the sim card or another location not sure how restoring from Acronis is going to help.
Need more details. Is outlook connected to exchange or stand alone?  Which version of  outlook.  If stand alone was the user store the addresses in the .pst  or .pab.  If standalone  you can recover the file from acronis to a different location or drive.  Then go into outlook and do a file import to restore.  If sync'd with exchange they should come back automatically.

If I know the answers to above I can give you more step by step. it varies by outlook version

I checked with the client and found its standalone Outlook 2003.
