Split up AD and keep multiple servers as PDC

Hello, we have a server (Windows Server 2008) in a remote office that is setup as a domain controller via a WAN link. That office is splitting off to become it's own business.

We'd like to break WAN connection and make that remote server become the master of it's copy of the AD, so we don't have to rebuild everything. We'd of course clean up both sides of the AD after the fact to get rid of the other sides data.

Can anyone guide me on what's the best way to remove the server from original AD and then have it become the owner of it's copy of the AD?

Thanks
