Dealing with a thankless boss
I am working with a boss who is thankless.
Even though i have worked very hard throughout the year- single handedly always met schedules, my code never broke in production in these 3 years, provide help to others when they needed, at the end of the year he writes a poor performance appraisal. It is evident he dosen't want to give me any credit, and wants to furustrate me. It is like I play my part and he playes his game.
Though he is the boss, but he is never handson on my project- he is either ignoring me (when i need his help, or if i did something credible) or yelling at me (if something goes wrong)
People are all about personalities. Seems he doesn't like my personality. I am a reserved person, but someone who is very fair. He is very social and political. Some of my colleagues call him a smooth liar, He lies very frequently and seems to flaunt it shamelessly.
What does a company do to make sure that manager's are not biased and are fair.
At the end, i feel we need people with the right values to be promoted as managers. However, people who get promoted are those who no doubt are good at their work but are also very unfair.

I second that, I think it is a common concern
Or maybe the topic forum just has no followers any more.
