Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 Migration on W2K domain with Barracuda Spam appliance
I'm pretty sure this question has been asked and answered over the years in several different parts, but I'm asking again as I have recently inherited this network issue.
We have a Windows 2000 domain here with 2 Exchange 5.5 servers installed on each domain controller. Exchange 2003 was installed as well on a W2K box and is currently used as the email server and webmail server, although the Exchange 5.5 is still receiving the mail and passing it on. This all comes through a Barracuda Spam appliance as well.
My question is how do I eliminate the 5.5 boxes from the network and utilize just the 2003 exchange server in this environment. Usually this would not be a difficult task as I have done it in the past, but the fact that I just walked into this environment throws a curveball due to lack of familiarity.
I would appreciate any assistance on this matter as i would like to move forward with upgrading to a 2003 domain as well as a virtualized environment and would prefer not to try and virutalize windows 2000. I'm not an exchange expert by any means and again I have searched through the questions to try and find a definitive answer to no avail.
