SharePoint 2010 Outgoing Email

hello,
i need some help - trying to configure "outgoing email" in sharepoint 2010; exchange 2010. smtp.company.com

-telnet smtp.company.com 587 {succesfully received the email}
-In SharePoint "Servers in Farm" ==> smtp.company.com {not configured} why??
-Event Viewer ID: 6857 cannot connect to smtp host smtp.company.com ????

any assistance will be helpful..

It says "not configured" because the smtp server isn't a farm server. This is completely normal.

In Exchange have you allowed relay from your SharePoint box?

hello ach1lles,

thanks for responding back. i have created a "relay" in exchange 2010 {added the sharepoint server's ip address + port: 587 + set for: Annonyomous; Exchange Servers; Legacy Exchange + TLS}

Event Viewer: 6857 Cannot connect to smtp host

Can you do an nslookup of smtp.company.com on your SharePoint Server.
