BTC External CD-RW BCE 5232 UI - Wont work on Ibook G4 running 10.3.6
Dear Expert,
Can you advise where i can download a CD driver in order to operate my BTC External CD-RW BCE 5232 UI on my Apple ibook G4 running 10.3.6. The manufacturers website only seems to have Windows drivers. Also if there is a driver that would work with it where would i need to place the file as at the moment its not recognising that its attahced via the USB. Do i also have to make it the master drive as i have an internal CD drive aswell?

Does the CD drive show up in Apple System Profiler under USB?

I can see CD-RW under the USB within system profiler but what driver do I download and where to I copy it too?
You probably don't need a driver. What exactly is the problem? Is it not reading DVD's or CD's when you insert them?
Try clicking on the desktop to make sure you are in Finder. Then pull down the Finder Menu to Preferences. Under the General Tab, make sure that "CD's DVD's and iPods" is checked. Also make sure it is checked under the sidebar tab.

All items listed and checked. Correct it's not reading any discs when I put them in be it cd or DVD. Is it because I already have an internal cd drive that's conflicting? Maybe the external cd-rw I have is just not mac compatible?

Ah it does read my music Cd but I want to use it to install mac osx 10.5.6 and it's not reading any of those! Is there no way of running mac osx installation disks from USB connected external cd-rw?
Check and see if the CD's or DVD's show up in Disk Utility.
Long shot, but try resetting the Mac's PRAM by doing a cold boot while holding down the command-option-p-r key combination until you hear the startup chime a third time.
The release and allow the computer to boot. See if it will then recognize the DVD when you insert it.

That's rather embarrassing. Borrowed it off my brother so didn't realise its just a Cd reader so guess I need to get my hands on an external DVD reader
