Exchange 2010 SMTP connector - maximum concurrent active messages sent

Edge Transport queue always has several hundred items in the queue.  That's OK as mail is flowing and it is a very busy server.  I noticed that depending on the volume of items the active messages being sent changes.  When the queue swells, the active number increases to 6 sending about 2500 message/hr  What is the maximum number of active connections and is this value able to be set via EMC or PS?  ie i want to push out more than 6 messages at a time if possible.

Either someone changed the defaults or you get a heck of a lot of emails.

yep, had the max concurrent outbound connections per domain set to 6..increased the value, queue flushes out much fast.
