There is no wrong way to install vmware tools, right?
I didn't follow your procedure (couldn't see movie from hanccocka location I was at then).

When I do shutdown of machine (Solaris) it doesn't do anything, vm just doesn't respond on shutdown via menu in vcenter ... it does via console, then shutdown. Then again it takes a really long time, black screen on vm but it stays on, seems vm is still running but ping isn't there anymore.

VMware Tools installation is relatively straightforward.

Copy from cdrom, extract archive, run the perl script as Root (su root), answer questions.

We always shutdown Solaris OS from within the OS, not using the menus.
