Change email address on digital certificate

I have a user who has an S/MIME digital cert setup with an email address.  His email address is changing due to the company being acquired.  He has no idea where the digital certificate is, and I have no idea how he got one.  All he knows is that he had it before with his old email so he could send/receive encrypted email.

I assume he needs to create one, but how does he do that?

If you examine the user's certificate, you can determine where it was issued.

I think you cannot change the E-mail address on DSC, but you have to create new certificate.

The user actually had had a CAC that was linked to his company email (as opposed to his customer email) and that is where his digital certificates were coming from.  Once he got a new CAC linked to his new email he was fine.

Found out from another user that this group of users have their CACs linked to their company account.
