iPod Touch - How do I setup messaging using a different email address then my AppleID email address?

My son got an iPod Touch for Christmas.  During the setup process I used my AppleID to register it.  Now I'm trying to set up Messaging using his email address (which is different than my AppleID) and it won't take. I get an error message of "Unable to verify email because it is already in use."

Now I setup his Email account first, so that took without an issue.  Could the Email address be causing the conflict?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok so first try some basic things
  1 restart your son's ipod
2 sign out and sign back in using your apple ID
If the above didnt help try the following:
  1 go to https://appleid.apple.com/
2 click on manage your apple ID
3 sign in using your apple ID when assked..
4 now you will see linked emails to your apple ID,
remove all linked emails (exept your example@me.com and example@icloud.com if existed), then find a "+ add Email adress" and write your son's Email adress,
It will say verification email sent
I hope it help sorry for my english :))
