X key stopped working on my laptop

Hi, here is a strange one. Today I noticed the X key does not work on my laptop. All the other keys are fine. The laptop is pretty old, (dv9000 series laptop) so I figured maybe the contact pad wore out under the key, allthough it would be odd that the X key would go since it is a very uncommon letter. But I know the pad did not wear out because if I hit the shift key and then the letter X, it works!

If I hit the caps lock key then hit X it does not work however.

has anyone ever heard of that before? if I purchase a new keyboard is it likley to fiX it?

i have not heard of this before, could you check that you have not press num lock by accident or the FN button on your laptop, sounds like it.

something along the lines of this:
