image map not working on the landing home page http://www.murraypark.com inside the div with id="bgContainer". When I set the z-index on this div to 10 or more, the map does work but then the other links on the page stop working .

The image with the image map MUST be the top most element for it to be clicked on. Any element that covers it will receive the click instead of the image. With that said, you can use an entirely transparent image that covers only the mapped area but not the other links. Just create a single pixel transparent image and size it to cover the mapped image. Then apply the image map to the transparent image.
