SBS2011, Linksys EA4500, Client DNS Resolution Problem
I got called into this SBS2011 setup after the fact, i.e., someone else tried, ran into a dead end, then they called me. ISP is Cbeyond. Their IAD connects to the WAN port of the EA4500. The LAN side of the EA4500 is the local network and the server is connected to one of the EA4500 LAN ports. Server TCP/IP config is set manually, correctly pointing to itself as the DNS server and it can surf just fine. Server is also the LAN DHCP server with the DHCP server in the EA4500 disabled. A client plugged into one of the EA4500 LAN ports gets what appears to be the exact same TCP/IP config as the manual params set in the server, but the clients cannot resolve public DNS names. I CAN ping the server by name from a client.
If I put the ip address of, say, google.com in the address bar of the client, it can display the web site. If I manually enter the public IP address of the Cbeyond DNS server in the tcp/ip settings, the client will surf. But with just the server address as the DNS address for the clients, they won't surf (they should).
I have included the ipconfig /all from both the server and a client below. Any pointers on this one??? Thanks.
The Information listed shows, 2 NICS in the Server... ?? Disable One NIC, keep the primary NIC enabled. Also make sure the Binding Order in Network Connections on the server is fine.
Primary NIC should be Primary in the Binding.
After making those changes, do an ipconfig /flushdns
