Quicken 2005 file association problem
I recently helped a neighbor after their computer failed. They had a win 7 box with Quicken 2005 installed. After replacing their pc with another win 7 machine, I reinstalled Quicken 2005 and copied their data files to that machine. Quicken does not see any file association with the data files. When I browse the quicken folder in order to get quicken to recognize the data file, I am unable to find the correct one. Any help would be awesome.

Quicken is not listed when I do this, when I navigate to the quicken folder, nothing in quickens program folder will open it. Quicken worked perfectly on the previous machine. Everything should be the same. The same OS, same Quicken version / disk, and the same previously working backup / data files

The interesting part is that when I open Quicken and browse for data files, is that all the files (6 or 8 of them) show up as unknown (the white bent corner file with the blue and red dots on them.

The only Quicken folder that I can find is located in Program Files (x86) this version of Quicken ran fine on her 1.5 year old HP Windows 7 Home box. Her new Mach is also an HP with Windows 7 Home. I was able to import one of her unimportant data files and that one works, just not the one she needs.

so in that folder you do not find qw.exe?
when you click start the all programs you do not see quicken 2005 folder listed?

Yes, when I go to all programs, Quicken is listed and opens fine. I will uninstall and give it another try. Thank you

Right click on the file then select open with
When the open with box opens select the program to open this file with
make sure you place a check mark in Always open this file with the selected program
