Computer Inventory: The Softwares

Hi,

This is related to the softwares used for physical inventory of computer devices in a company (Note: The computer devices can be all desktops, all laptops, all servers, all network devices, all printers, etc). Most company do the physical inventory of their computer devices at least Once a year (It is very helpful for the accounting department)

I forgot the name of the SOFTWARE used to get all the INFORMATION of the above devices (Sucah as Its Operating System, application softwares installed, serial numbers, etc)

My questions:
1)      First: What is the name of the above software? (It was used between 10 – 15 years ago)
2)      Second: What other softwares have been using for the Inventory of computer devices now?

There are many tools that can be used for this. Very good is spiceworks, as it doesn't only give you the info you asked about above, but it also monitors the state of your complete LAN, so you know when you should replace a hardware or add a larger disk etc:
